Aquatic Leadership Pathways
Specialized leadership tracks that focus on the areas of aquatic safety and swim lesson instruction with the intent of preparing and motivating participants to become lifeguards and swim instructors.
Students learn about themselves, working with others, service and career opportunities. Program goals are achieved through participation in the classroom and pool:
- Personal growth
- Leadership development
- Opportunities for service through volunteerism or a career in the aquatics environment
- Enhance skills related to swim instruction and lifeguarding
- Create more safety awareness in aquatic environments
Lifeguard Development
This program gives students knowledge of aquatic safety and skills needed to become a lifeguard. Activities are designed to provide real world lifeguard experiences that foster communication, teamwork and a sense of accomplishment by focusing on the following milestones:
- Learning the lifeguard role to prevent & recognize emergencies
- Scanning & recognizing victims
- Entering the pool, making the appropriate rescue & exiting the water
- Providing care using CPR & First Aid
- Increasing endurance to meet the prerequisite physical competency requirement of a lifeguard certification course
Students should have endurance to swim a minimum of 150 yards of any stroke or combination of strokes to participate in this program.
Ages 14 and up.
