The YMCA of Greater Erie has always been dedicated to its mission of helping and enriching our community and ALL those who live in it. One way we accomplish this is by providing our members opportunities to prioritize their health and wellness. Through seminars, in-house events, and even partnerships with community organizations, we want to make our community a better, happier, and healthier one.

Annual Health & Wellness Fair

It’s time again for our annual Health & Wellness Fair! Vendors from across the area will be on hand to provide you with health screenings and information on a variety of topics – healthy living, personal care, nutrition, aging, and much more! Each attendee will receive a door prize ticket for their chance to win a Fitbit Versa 3. Basket raffle tickets will be available for purchase for $5.

Over 40 vendors are scheduled. Topics and screenings offered will include:

  • Posture Screening/Analysis
  • Foot Analysis
  • Utility Payment Assistance Info
  • Senior State Services
  • Housing
  • Volunteer Opportunities

Giving blood is a simple, safe way to make a big difference in people’s lives.

Donating blood can help:

  • People who go through disasters or emergency situations
  • People who lose blood during major surgeries
  • People who have lost blood because of a gastrointestinal bleed
  • Women who have serious complications during pregnancy or childbirth
  • People with cancer or severe anemia, sometimes caused by thalassemia or sickle cell disease

Before You Donate

If you want to donate blood, it’s important to ensure you meet the requirements and are properly prepared.

You’ll need to be:

  • At least 16 years old to donate whole blood (at least 17 to donate platelets) in most states
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
  • In good health and feeling well

Hosted by the Community Blood Bank of NWPA (Bloodmobile). Donate to help out local NWPA hospitals.

Diabetes Alert Day

American Diabetes Association Alert Day®, which is held every fourth Tuesday in March, is a one-day, “wake-up call” asking the American public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Join our Chronic Disease Prevention staff to take the test, find your risk, and form a plan to Stop T2D!

The new Diabetes Risk Test asks users to answer simple questions about weight, age, family history and other potential risks for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Preventative tips are provided for everyone who takes the test, including encouraging those at high risk to talk with their health care provider.

No registration is required.

We know that dealing with this particular health issue can be a daunting thing to handle on your own. The Y is proud to provide valuable information to help those deal with this chronic issue. We look to host a number of informative group discussions about a variety of topics relating to living better with diabetes, including being active, healthy eating reducing risks etc.

Come listen to our guest speaker, Julie Lariccia, NBC-HWC, DPP Lifestyle Coach, and ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist, as she leads these informative discussions.

Senior Fitness Assessments

Participants will be assessed on their strength, balance, cardio endurance, agility, and flexibility. Test results will help individuals identify specific health goals and appropriate programs and classes.

A comfortable outfit and sneakers should be worn. For the most accurate results, participants should avoid vigorous exercise before the fitness assessments.
