Volleyball

Ready. Set. Spike! Hit the net with the folks who invented the game – the Y! Originally called mintonette, volleyball was created by the YMCA. An experimental game, mintonette combined a variation of the badminton net with elements of basketball, the German game of fistball and handball.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964.

VIEW

As a reintroduction of Volleyball Leagues at the Y, we will start with one league.  This league is open to teams of any ability.  The league itself will be recreational in the sense that it is “call your own” officiating and everyone wants to have fun and just play volleyball and competitive in the sense that score will be kept and there will be a winner and a loser.

  • This league will be six (6) pre-determined matchups plus playoffs for top teams
    • League starts April 7th
    • Playoff Day:  May 19th
  • First Game Time will be no earlier than 5:30 PM
  • Last game will be over no later than 8:45 PM
  • Six (6) players on court at a time with two (2) players of the opposite sex on the court at all times
  • Register as a captain and bring your own team or as an individual (placed on a YMCA House Team with other registered individuals)
    • Team Fee (due by 2nd game): $220
    • Individual Fee (due at first game):  will be the team fee divided by the number of individuals on the YMCA House Team (ex. – if 10 players register individually, it would be $220 / 10 equaling $22 per player, etc.)
      • No fees are due at time of registration
      • Individual placement is not guaranteed and depends solely on their being enough individuals registered for a team
