Healthy Competition Skills for Life

Every child has swimming abilities – there’s a little Michael Phelps or Simone Manuel in each of them.  Help yours find their swimming potential through the  Eastside Family Y Swim Team!  Swimmers of all ages and abilities participate in our Swim Teams.  Led by caring coaches, we emphasize personal improvement through stroke technique and training, a strong work ethic and team work through competitive swimming.   Swimmers compete locally with the opportunity to advance to the district, state and national level.

Program Offerings

Our team is open to swimmers age 5 (as of December 1, 2023) through 18, and of any level or ability, provided they can pass a swim safety test (more details under “New Swimmers” below). Our 2023-2024 season is tentatively schedule to start Sept. 11th.

For additional information, check out our forms and FAQs at the bottom of this page, email Coach Dan Saunders, stop by the front desk, or check our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com.eastsideymcaswimteam/

2023-2024

  • September 7th:  5pm-8pm:  Blaze Pizza Fundraiser
  • September 11th:  Practices Begin:  Time and Location TBA

At the YMCA, the safety of children is our top priority. All volunteers must have current Act 33 and 34 clearances, as well as a complete volunteer application, which includes a Code of Conduct. As all Swim Team families must take a turn volunteering for timekeeping at swim meets, we require that at least one person per family become a certified volunteer for this purpose. Parents who have current Act 33 and Act 34 clearances may provide copies for their files; if the parent has no current clearances, you may obtain them at no cost to the applicant at the link under Forms and Information, where you can also find the volunteer application. We thank you for joining us in keeping our kids as safe as possible!

NEW SWIMMERS

Welcome to our team! New swimmers will need to take a swim safety test before registering with our team. These tests can be scheduled with Coach Dan Saunders, email [email protected]. After their swim test, swimmers will be able to register for swim team at the front desk of the Eastside YMCA or online. Swimmers must also be or become a member of the YMCA, per YUSA mandate.

RETURNING SWIMMERS

Swimmers can pay registration fees online here: https://www.ymcaerie.org/programs/341/ymca-swim-team/ ) or register by phone or in person at the front desk.

Dan Saunders, Head Coach

This is my third year as a part of the Eastside Swim Team coaching staff. While I have many years of experience, this is my first-year coaching. I began swimming when I was 10 years old, for the North East YMCA program, now known as the Eastside YMCA program. In my second year on the team, I qualified for states in the 200 IM and both 200 medley and free relays, which went on to break the Northwest PA YMCA Swim League records, records that still stand today. The medley relay also went on to qualify for Nationals that year. From there, I went on to qualify for States one more time before leaving the YMCA program to swim at North East High School.  There I swam varsity four years, qualifying twice for States, and was recognized as an Athlete of the Week in 2006. I went on to be a collegiate swimmer at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for two years, before leaving the team to concentrate on completing my degree in Drafting.

My years on the YMCA and North East teams have some of my best memories in them, because of the team environment and friendships that still carry on today. I am excited continue with the Eastside Swim Team as a coach, and to get back into the sport that I am so passionate about.
